Restoration of the Pinnacle Detail
This restoration project began with the discovery of extensive rot and water damage in the original decorative gable finial. The old piece, likely over a century old, had deteriorated beyond repair and was no longer structurally sound. I carefully dismantled the damaged wood, documented the original profile, and rebuilt the entire finial from Western Red Cedar for weather resistance. By using a combination of modern tools and hand-carving techniques, I was able to amend the design more toward the homeowner’s taste. The final installation restored not only the appearance but also the integrity of the gable, bringing new life to this architectural detail.

Restoration at [house]
This restoration project began with the discovery of extensive rot and water damage in the original decorative gable finial. The old piece, likely over a century old, had deteriorated beyond repair and was no longer structurally sound. I carefully dismantled the damaged wood, documented the original profile, and rebuilt the entire finial from solid hardwood. Using traditional joinery and hand-carving techniques, I replicated the historical design while improving durability for the future. The final installation restored not only the appearance but also the integrity of the gable, bringing new life to this architectural detail
